My little sister Michelle is creative and very talented in the handcraft department! I asked her to give us a tutorial on one of her favourite DIY projects for this season - and here it goes:
THE KANZASHI FLOWER TUTORIAL by Michelle
You will need the following to make one Kanzashi Flower:
2 different fabrics (here we use one solid and one print)
Needle and Thread
1 - Cut out 7 squares (7.5 x 7.5 cm) from each fabric ! The size you cut your squares will determine how big your flower will be but for this tutorial I will use a 7.5 cm square.
2 - Fold the square to a triangle. Make sure that the wrong sides are folded to the inside so that the right sides will appear on the outside.
3 - Put the "print" triangle on top of the "solid" triangle.
4 - Now bring the lower outside corner and the top outside corner up to meet the right corner as seen above.
5 - Flip the newly created square over
6 - Put the right corner on the left corner to create a triangle again !
7 - Cut off the left and lower corners as you see above - be sure to create a 90° angle at the lower left !
8 - Repeat step 2-7 ! String all of the Kanzashi petals on a needle with thread that has been doubled and knotted at the end.
Here is a top view of what the Kanzashi petals look like threaded together.
For the covered button, you will need :
a set for covered buttons
fabric of your choice
9 - Cut out a circle of fabric - a big bigger than the bottom part of the cover-button-set.
10 - Push down the button on fabric with help of the cover-button-set.
Covered button DONE!
11 - Glue the button to the flower petals and your Kanzashi flower is DONE !
You can add these adorable flowers to just about any sewing or craft project you could think of - pins / headband / hairpins and you have a quick gift for this holiday. ENJOY!
Thank you very much, Michelle + see you soon!
