Léonore might already have opened the second bag of her calendar today but I have also prepared something very special for YOU - my dear readers!
Today we will have a sneak preview of how the young Viennese are celebrating this season! I interviewed Joëlle, an old friend of mine from Luxembourg lives with her husband Udo and 4-year old son Emil in Vienna.
Tell me about your personal BEST-OF the Holiday season?
Baking Christmas cookies with Emil- an Austrian tradition and seeing Emil happy every day when he opens on of the bags of his advent calendar.
How do you celebrate the holidays?
Very quietly on the 24th: in the morning Emil and I usually go to a children's theater where they play a special piece for children. In the evening only the three of us are cooking, having dinner, unpacking gifts, playing, listening music. On the 25th we are joining Emil's grandparents an cousins in Cartinthia where there will hopefully be some snow...
Any differences between celebrating in Luxembourg or Vienna?
It's not such a big difference. But everything around the holiday season is much bigger and more present for weeks in advance than it was during my childhood in Luxembourg: here in Vienna there are many Christmas markets and the whole city is decorated with Christmas lightning from mid November on.
Do you create any new traditions with your partner and kids?
No, not really. I just try not being too busy those days...
May I have a sneak preview of your decorated home ?
What does Emil wish for from Santa ?
Emil is very into Lego, so his big wish is a Lego train!
and what do YOU want ?
Nothing special - only a few peaceful days!
Thank so much Joëlle and a very happy holiday to you and your family!
