Lucky you - today you will get 2 treats!
First may I introduce to you Gosia - a fellow mom and blogger here in Rome, who was very hesitant to be part of this holiday interview series... but she will tell you for herself!
Your name / where you are from / where do you live ?
Gosia from Poland living in Rome
Your kid’s name and age ?
Gaia - almost 16 months old.
Tell me about your personal BEST-OF the Holiday season?
I didn’t want to give this interview as I don’t like Xmas that much and thought it would spoil the cheerful atmosphere;) I don’t really know what irritates me in the Xmas season but maybe the fact that reality never looks like in American holidays movies. Though, I still hope that I will like Xmas one day, and we will have an American movie in our home!!! Next year, promised!
How to you celebrate the holidays?
I always spend Xmas with my family at home in Poland. We are not so many at table so it’s usually very calm. Or maybe I should say, it used to be calm because now we have Gaia that brings much more fun to everything. But in Poland the most important event is the Xmas Eve – we have a very special dinner that starts with the first star (so: early) with dishes we eat only that day. Everything without meat! Pierogi (famous tortellini with cabbage and mushrooms), mushroom soup and carp (always difficult to eat without bones)… We always share the wafer with wishes with each other and sing Xmas Carols (once I noticed that Polish Carols are only religious while English about Santa Claus). We always prepare a spare seat at the table for ‘an unexpected guest’. There is also a tradition to go to the midnight mass on 24th. All in all, I think that Polish Xmas is still more of religious character than in other countries.
How do they celebrate the holidays differently where you live now than when you grew up ?
I don’t spend Xmas in other countries. But since we have Gaia we spend Xmas together with my Italian husband (while before we always separated to go to our families) which I like a lot!
Do you create any new traditions with your partner and kids?
For the moment we didn’t make up any new traditions for our little family. We always try to look for nice presents for each other. And go out for a Xmas dinner just the two.
Do you plan any kids specials for the holidays ?
This year Gaia is still small to enjoy any special events but we definitely need to invite Santa Claus! And slide on a sled when there is snow.
What do your kids wish for from Santa ?
Gaia will get her first LEGO set, a small wooden camera and a doll that speaks.
... and what do YOU wish for ?
I want a ticket to New York!!!
Thank you Gosia! Have a wonderful time in Poland - see you in 2014!
