MINIART - Art Show by DWG

Added on by martine nicolay.

Today I will share some of the inspiration from my new home town. The first thing I usually report of Dakar is its creative environment. From its colorful and unique car rapides  to its street art, where ever you go you are surrounded by art!

And this weekend was one of Dakar art scene highlights, the Art Show organized by the Dakar Women Group. It was one of the finest selections I have seen so far. Over 500 pieces from more than 50 artists born, raised, working or living in Senegal!

But see for yourself and tell me that this does not inspire you to create!

MINIVOYAGE - Saint Louis, Senegal - Part2

Added on by martine nicolay.

I am still day-dreaming of our trip up north last week. It was good to get out. It was good to have a  family outing. We stayed at a lovely guesthouse Niokobokk, 20 minutes south of Saint Louis. Isabelle and Didier's guesthouse lies just in front of the ocean. It is an oasis. There is nothing like being alone on a beach "sauvage". We must return soon!

MINIVOYAGE - Saint Louis, Senegal - Part1

Added on by martine nicolay.

Since the beginning of the year, we have been traveling outside of Dakar a few times and discovering Senegal. It is beautiful.

Last weekend, we went up north to Saint Louis and spent a couple of days there with the kids. Dakar is interesting. We've got the ocean. A few highlights to see in Plateau, nice bars and restaurants at the Almadies and in between a lot of convenience. But it is exhausting to go around. I truly miss my roman daily walks.

Saint-Louis was different.  Calmer. Smaller. Colder. I liked it a lot. Let me share some photographs and some film with you from last weekend.

It's Friday - my favourite day of the week! In Lao they call it wan sao noi - little Saturday! I think it is brilliant and exactly what it feels like every week all over!

I want to introduce a special Friday-column to the blog, MINITECTURE LIKES. Every Friday I will share with you stories I found and read online or elsewhere. MINICALENDAR - 4 - Marché des créateurs

Added on by martine nicolay.

Oh how I wish I would be in Luxembourg this weekend! I will miss Kleeschen (St Nick) ... and the Marché des créateurs at MUDAM!!

The luxembourgish designer market opens today and will stay open until Sunday!

Dear family and friends in Luxembourg please visit and report!

Mudam, opens its doors once again to the “Marché des créateurs”, offering designers an unusual display and selling space. This annual meeting is an opportunity to bring together designers using different techniques and working in diverse disciplines and universes (product, fashion and textile design, illustrations, jewellery...). There are a multitude of revisited or totally new objects that reflect the effervescence of contemporary production. Limited editions, handcrafted or edited products: the “Marché des créateurs” bears witness to great creativity and is a unique occasion for innovating designers and the public to meet. Mudam invites Carolyn Gobran (Director of Extrabold and Honey\Mustard) as a guest-curator of the 2013 edition to select the participating designers and the scenography is composed of coardbox modules realised for the occasion by the designer Noa Haim.
